🌍 IEA Renewables 2024: Electricity Outlook
The International Energy Agency projects record renewable growth through 2030. Annual additions are set to rise from 666 GW in 2024 to nearly 935 GW by 2030, with solar PV and wind making up 95% of new capacity.
Solar leads the way — expected to deliver almost 80% of global renewable electricity expansion, thanks to falling costs, faster permitting, and strong policy support. Distributed solar (homes, businesses, off-grid) will account for nearly 40% of PV growth, empowering consumers to cut bills and emissions.
Hydropower, bioenergy, and others play smaller but steady roles, while Africa and emerging economies begin tapping vast untapped potential.
👉 In short: the 2020s are shaping up to be the decade when renewables — especially solar — redefine the world’s power systems.
